Watching Your Favorite Warner Brothers Action Movies at Home

2020 and 2021 were supposed to be big years for Warner Bros action movies, with a ton of new releases in the works from years prior, films like Tenet, Wonder Woman 1984, a Suicide Squad followup, a new Godzilla vs. Kong offering, Dune, and Matrix 4, just to name a few. But of course, the pandemic had other plans, and with many theaters still closed for the foreseeable future, Warner Bros decided it was time for some drastic action.

While Warner Bros has already bumped up release dates for a number of films like Tenet and Wonder Woman 1984, they’ve decided that rather than continuing to bump release dates, they’d release all of their films on the HBO Max streaming service at the same time as their global theatrical releases.

"No one wants films back on the big screen more than we do," said Ann Sarnoff, chief executive of WarnerMedia Studios in a statement. "We know new content is the lifeblood of theatrical exhibition, but we have to balance this with the reality that most theatres in the U.S. will likely operate at reduced capacity throughout 2021."

Industry analysts have been weighing in on the effects they anticipate this move will have, but the fact of the matter is that nobody can predict the future. Will this move forever change the way we watch movies even after the pandemic is over? Only time will tell. In the meantime, we’ll be on the couch with some popcorn eagerly awaiting the new releases!
