You’ll go Cuckoo Over These Thrilling Reads

With pandemic restrictions leaving many in need of a good thrill, the team here at Plotlens thought we’d recommend two great reads that you’ll go absolutely cuckoo for!

The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith. The Cuckoo’s Calling brings us into the world of war veteran and private investigator Cormoran Strike as he investigates the suicide of famous actress Lula Landry. While the plot may seem unfamiliar, the writing style may show some similarities to books you’ve already read and love, and there’s a good reason for that. Robert Galbraith, you see, is in fact the pen name of none other than beloved Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. The Cuckoo’s Calling is the first in the Cormoran Strike series, which already boasts an impressive five books.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. You may already be familiar with the film, it was released in 1975 to critical acclaim and tremendous commercial success. Starring Jack Nicholson, the movie would go on to be considered one of the greatest of all time, and it’s all based on Ken Kesey’s 1962 novel of the same name. Set in an Oregon psychiatric hospital, the book tells of the antics of a rebellious patient, as told from the perspective of "Chief" Bromden, a fellow patient who presents himself as deaf and mute. The book entertains while presenting an at-times harsh critique of psychiatric practices of the time.
